North Lancashire Expo This Weekend

Posted on: 22 , September 2017

The North Lancashire EXPO will take place this Sunday and Monday, September 24 and 25, at Lancaster Brewery on Wyresdale Road.

It will focus on business training, skills, education and what the future has to hold within the workplace.

The Chief Executive of Lancaster and District Chamber of Commerce is hoping the forthcoming North Lancashire Expo will encourage youngsters to pitch their skills in and around Lancaster.

Vicky Lofthouse said: "For too long the lure of the major cities has beckoned many of our youngsters away, but we see no reason why we shouldn’t keep our future talent to ourselves."

She added that a lot of hard work has gone into the event to ensure everyone feels welcome, and said: "We know the problems that the area faces, skills shortages and skills retention, and the Expo is the first opportunity to talk directly to the next generations about what a wonderful area we have to live, work and play in.

“In addition, with the UK leaving the European Union in two years’ time, it’s an ideal time to increase the volume on the conversation regarding exporting and importing for our local and regional firms.”

To celebrate more than a century of being in operation, the chamber's event, in association with The Bay Radio, will be held at The Chamber Expotorium at Lancaster Brewery, with the aim of helping local businesses to network, as well as make the most of their relationships with consumers.

Organisers say that it is intended for the Sunday to be more of a family day, with interactive exhibits and displays, whilst the Monday will be a networking and information day for businesses.

Ms Lofthouse said that an "expotorium" has been created, splitting sectors into dedicated areas of the venue: “We are very excited at having the opportunity to run what we believe is the first Expo in the district."

The event will have special guest speakers and break-out sessions dealing with a range of current topics on the Monday. The event is being backed by media sponsors, CN Group's The Bay Radio and inTheBay, ensuring that both the business to business, and business to consumer markets are targeted to maximise exposure and attendance for exhibitors.

Whilst the title of the Expo is 'North Lancs Expo', The Chamber said that it should represent the ever growing co-operation of businesses around the Morecambe Bay economic region.

Additionally, the locality is becoming a very economically important area within the energy generation, defence, education, transport industries, and the new £41m Health Innovation Campus at Lancaster University moving closer to fruition.

It is intended that the Health Innovation Campus will create a world-class centre of excellence for innovation and research in health, and brings together innovators, academics, entrepreneurs, businesses, local government, citizens and health care providers. It will also drive advances in technologies, products, and ways of working to improve health and healthcare.

Managing director of The Bay, Bill Johnston said: “Due to our huge reach across all demographics, it is a perfect opportunity for us to team up with the Chamber to promote the best of what north Lancashire and the Morecambe Bay region has to offer."

Mr Johnston added: “As well as giving the event huge pre-promotional publicity to the benefit of all exhibitors and partners involved, we’ll also be live from the event on both days talking to as many exhibitors and members of the public as possible.

“This really is a fantastic initiative that the Chamber is driving and we are thrilled to be part of it."

The event runs from 12pm on September 24, to 4pm on September 25.
